    Gmail is Google’s free email service, accessed via the web browser or its official mobile application. The email service offers 15GB of free storage and many upgrade options. Also, it has an in-built spam filtering system, so you don’t have to go through hundreds and thousands of emails trying to waste your time. Additionally, Gmail offers a wide range of time-saving features, such as auto-compose, and lets you automate emailing tasks. You can personalize the dashboard, change its background and create neat folders to organize your emails.

    • Registering and creating a new account

    It takes less than a minute to register your free Gmail account. Simply provide your first name, last name, and email account. Create a password.

    To register your charity, business, or educational organization, you must set up an account on Google Workspace. But this is a paid service that starts from $5.

    You can also download and install the Gmail app. The app works similarly to the Gmail website, with minor differences.

    • Gmail settings

    On the Settings dashboard, you will see a range of options for managing the security, layout, email forwarding, and other features. There’s also the Quick Settings option where you can tinker with Inbox Type, Inbox Density, and other features.

    • Gmail recovery

    There are instances of users forgetting their Gmail password. If this happens to you, it is possible to quickly follow the Gmail recovery steps and retrieve your account.

    During registration, Google asks for your phone number or a recovery email address. So, if you forget your password, you can select the Forgot Password option and then enter your phone number or the recovery email address. You will receive a Gmail Forgot Password Verification Code on your phone or a link to your email inbox.

    Once you have completed the steps as instructed, you will be asked to create a new password. Also, Google may ask you a series of security questions to verify your identity.

    • Composing emails

    Composing an email is a straightforward process. Click the Compose button, and a new message box will be brought up. Then, you will see options like To, CC/BCC, and Subject fields. Then, the space for filling your email content.

    When drafting your email, the spelling and grammar errors will be highlighted so you can quickly make the changes. Once the email content is edited and you are satisfied, click the Send button.

    Remember, you can add images and attachments and even change the font style and size of the email content. Attachments can be added by clicking the paperclip icon, or you can drag and drop the files.

    • Inbox organization

    The Gmail dashboard is fully customizable so that you can organize your Inbox. There are tabs, labels, and folders to let you manage where your emails are stored and how they are displayed. If you want to mark an email as necessary, click the star icon. The starred emails will be displayed on top. Also, there’s the Priority Inbox, where the emails you interact with the most will be displayed.

    • Marketing emails as spam

    If there are unwanted emails in your Inbox, you can mark them as Spam. The emails will be sent to the Spam folder, which will keep your Inbox clutter-free. Also, once you mark some senders as Spam, all future emails from that sender and similar kinds of emails will be sent to the Spam folder.

    • Creating a signature

    You can create email signatures to add a professional tone to your emails. You can customize your signatures within Settings. You can add links and images and change fonts and colors to suit your brand’s style.

    Also, you can add an out-of-office responder so your contacts are alerted of your absence when you are away.

    • Add contacts

    If you want to store your contacts safely and sync them, you can use Google Contacts. Gmail is linked to this app by default. All your contact details are stored in this app. You can even choose to add complete profiles to these contacts, including addresses, phone numbers, birthdays, job titles, etc. So, you will never lose your contacts if you remember your Gmail account and password.
